Background and utility

During the past years, we have developed, optimized and validated assays to measure non-transferrin-bound iron (NTBI) and its redox-active component labile plasma iron (LPI) in serum samples. These parameters can serve as therapeutic targets and as indicators for the efficacy of body iron-reducing therapies.

NTBI and LPI measurements are coordinated and performed by the Hepcidinanalysis.com initiative that is embedded in the Translational Metabolic Laboratory of the Department of Laboratory Medicine of the Radboudumc, Nijmegen, the Netherlands.
